News and Show Wins

Maranello competed at the 2003 US Nationals in the 3-year-old National Futurity Colts Class.  With less than two months of preparation (we only purchased him in August) and in the middle of a growth spurt — up in the butt, we knew we were at a disadvantage, but he was nice enough to give it a shot.  He came in 11th, just missing the Top Ten, but had several people follow him back to the stalls to visit him up close and personal.  The comment from the masses, including judges not judging the show and some working center ring was clearly that when he fully matures, he is going to be spectacular.  Gil Valdez, the head groom for Midwest Training Center was kind enough to step up to the plate and show Maranello, and we are grateful as he did a wonderful job.  We are proud of his accomplishment his first time shown at a National Competition, with so little time to prepare.

April 2004 Newsletter

They say lightening only strikes once, but certainly, I am living proof it can strike twice and it has. The newest addition to our breeding program, Maranello, purchased in August of 2003, finally arrived home the first weekend in March. Bit of a culture shock for the boy, he had lived at Midwest Training Center for almost all of his 4 years, with exception of his first few months of life which he spent with his mother, RD Bey Shahmpane at the farm of Dr. Phillip Del Pozzo and Brent Stone, his breeders from California. Maranello had spent the winter in Scottsdale, Arizona, being promoted and living the good life, but has made the transition home like the champion he is. We considered leaving Maranello at Midwest for the breeding season, but decided that I could stand him at my farm and make it much more economical to the mare owners who wished to breed to him, as well as desperately wanting an opportunity to have him home and to get to know him better.

Visitors are at first site mesmerized by his incredible beauty, size and stretch, amazingly upright long, long hooky neck, and expression that can’t be described in words — literally. I know it seems a cliché to imply that he leaves you speechless, but I am told that over and over again. Once he hooks you with his stunning good looks and stature, you find that he truly craves attention and absolutely loves people and if your not paying attention to him, he will certainly do something to draw your attention back, like sticking his head out of his feed door, rolling his eyes back, and sticking his lip in the air. Yes, he even has an incredible sense of humor. First its goose bumps and then he has you laughing. He simply steals your heart and anyone who comes in contact with him is hooked! Some say, to see him is to become addicted – “I just can’t get him out of my mind – I keep getting out his picture and video, over and over again – I haven’t felt this way about a young stallion in years” and this is from people who have been around for years and years and bred to some of the best.

Lightning has truly struck twice in my life, first RLink to Blue who has established our farm, our reputation, and our program, and now, Maranello, charged with carrying on the next step in our breeding program – promised to Blue’s daughters.

Maranello is setting records here his first year at public stud. With 37 mares already committed to him by mare owners across the US and Canada and promotion really just getting under way, we are sure to see an incredible foal crop in 2005. He is promised to daughters of Bey Shah, Aladdinn, Magnum, Padron’s Psyche, Legacy of Gold, The Color of Fame, JA Magnificat, An Malik, Safire, Ramses Fayek, Ibn Kamim, Bey Oro, and TR Kharo Harmony, just to name a few – contracts are still coming in. Joaquine de Santibanes, has committed one of his Bey Shah daughters, Allishah VF, to Maranello. She arrived here a few weeks ago and will make our farm her future home, promised exclusively to Maranello each year. I am told that Joaquine has been infatuated with Maranello for some time. Now that’s the ultimate compliment from a young man whose family owns Magnum Psyche.

Shipping semen is going exceptionally well under the guidance and with the assistance of Rene Kramer at Red Tail Arabians. Their patience and attention to detail is so appreciated and necessary in making this process a success, and Rene makes the process truly a pleasure, as well as an affordable option for mare owners. I look forward to working with Rene and Red Tail in the months and years to come.

IM Bronze will make his debut in the coming months and years with his new owner, Mary Lambert, D.V.M., from Rush City, Minnesota, where he will begin the rigorous training program preparing for endurance and competitive trail. He will join his brother, Chantin The Blues, a 2003 Region Top 10 Competitive Trail Winner, as Mary’s first competitive trail horse. Obviously, for her, nothing but another “Blue” would do!

Many of Blue’s kids will be hitting the show ring again soon and we wish them all the very best. As with any breeding program, it takes time to establish a reputation for producing honest, high quality, talented, trainable, and beautiful horses, that are affordable to all. We have survived the first 10 years and now grasp the next ten years with even more enthusiasm and excitement. We have established a devoted base of clientele that just keeps growing and expanding beyond our wildest dreams. Without all who have believed in us in the past, and all those, putting their faith in us for the future, we surely would never have accomplished so much! When all of this began, I never would have guessed that there would come a day my breeding program would have made such a difference to so many people and that it would reach far beyond the borders of the small town in which we are located, much less across state lines and now our country’s borders. There is no way to tell each and every one who has believed in and supported us along the way how they have truly touched us and made a difference in our lives. Plans for future promotional campaigns in anticipation of the arrival of Maranello’s first foals are already in the planning stages and we can hardly wait for their arrival next spring!
